April: Prime Time for Pelagic Encounters

April is a standout month in the Sea of Cortez, offering ideal conditions for spotting pelagic species. The ocean is alive with activity: the mass migration of mobula rays, sea lions, manta rays, several species of whales and even orcas.

The Sea of Cortez, or Gulf of California, spans over 1,126 kilometers between Mexico’s Baja California Peninsula and the mainland. Renowned for its extraordinary biodiversity, it has been the backdrop for numerous major natural history productions, including documentaries by Jacques Cousteau, who called it "the world's aquarium." Its dynamic marine ecosystem and stunning underwater landscapes continue to attract scientists, filmmakers, and explorers seeking to uncover its many ecological secrets.

MOBULA RAY & BIG ANIMAL MIGRATION

The Sea of Cortez offers unique snorkeling and scuba diving opportunities. Visitors can observe seasonal migrations of mobula rays, pods of dolphins, and encounter various whale species, including blue, humpback, and sperm whales, as well as orcas. The waters are home to diverse marine life, including manta rays, sea turtles, and sea lions.

For this ocean safari we will be partnering up with La Ventana Dive Center (Instagram: @laventanadivecenter), a professional facility offering scuba diving trips, snorkeling tours, and PADI-certified training and specializes in exploring the diverse marine life of the Sea of Cortez.

Cañon de la Zorra

Also known as Fox Canyon, it is a secluded natural oasis in Baja California Sur, Mexico. It's a hidden gem that features a short hiking trail through the desert, waterfalls, and crystal-clear pools.

Arch of Cabo San Lucas

The arch of Cabo San Lucas is a distinctive granitic rock formation at the southern tip of Cabo San Lucas, which is itself the extreme southern end of Mexico's Baja California Peninsula.
