ALOR

16 - 23 | 23 - 30 OCT 2025

Alor, Indonesia, is the kind of place that lives in whispers among seasoned divers — a secluded jewel where the currents are as lively as the marine life they sustain. Tucked in the easternmost reaches of the Nusa Tenggara archipelago, Alor offers diving that is both exhilarating and intimate.

We love this place so much we’ve already been here twice in the past. What sets Alor apart isn’t just its beauty—it’s the feeling of being let in on a secret. It’s not for everyone, and that’s precisely the point. For the discerning diver, Alor is a journey into the untamed, where every dive feels like a discovery and every moment, a privilege.

Exceptional Marine Biodiversity

Alor, located within the Coral Triangle, boasts some of the richest marine biodiversity on the planet. Divers can encounter rare critters and large pelagics all in one destination. It's a haven for macro photography, with fascinating species like rhinopias, frogfish, and nudibranchs frequently spotted. Additionally, there are opportunities to see hammerhead sharks, rays, whales, and even the resident dugong.

Pristine and Untouched Dive Sites

The dive sites in Alor are remote and less frequented, offering pristine conditions with healthy coral ecosystems and minimal crowding. Crystal-clear waters provide excellent visibility, often exceeding 30 meters.

Exclusive Luxury

Our stay at Alor Tanapi Resort offers a luxurious and intimate escape, catering to only a small number of guests at a time. This exclusivity ensures personalized service, privacy, and a tranquil atmosphere. The resort's stunning setting, elegant accommodations, and focus on bespoke experiences make it the perfect retreat for divers seeking both adventure and indulgence.

Cultural Enrichment and Scenic Wonders

Alor’s traditional villages, such as those of the Abui people, offer cultural insights and make surface intervals memorable. Spectacular landscapes, including rugged islands and volcanic backdrops, create a stunning setting above and below water.

about alor

Alor, part of Indonesia’s Lesser Sunda Islands, lies east of Flores and northwest of Timor in the Coral Triangle. Its 20 islands, including Alor and Pantar, boast volcanic origins and rich marine biodiversity.

Historically connected to Southeast Asian trade, Alor is home to Austronesian and Papuan-speaking communities. Kalabahi, its main town, anchors a region where traditional fishing, farming, and ikat weaving remain central to the local way of life.

SCUBA DIVING IN ALOR

Alor offers diverse diving experiences, from dramatic walls and steep drop-offs to volcanic underwater landscapes and black sand muck diving. Strong currents in certain areas attract pelagic species like sharks, rays, and barracudas, while vibrant coral gardens transition into volcanic slopes bustling with cryptic critters such as rhinopias, dragonets, and pygmy pipehorses—marine marvels that seem straight out of a biologist’s journal. Muck diving here feels like an unparalleled treasure hunt, with black sands revealing rare, camouflaged wonders. In contrast, channel dives challenge divers with swift currents but reward them with thrilling encounters, including dolphins, mola-molas and even blue whales.
